Unleashing the Power of Your Thoughts
Feb 26, 2025
In our latest episode of The Crazy Ex-Wives Club, I had the pleasure of chatting with Lizzy Rich, a life coach and hypnotherapist, about a transformative topic that's close to many of our hearts: how to rewrite the script that our minds create, so we can live a life we truly love. We delved into the concept that "thoughts create your reality," and explored ways to harness this idea for personal empowerment—particularly poignant for those navigating the rocky path of divorce.
Understanding NLP Therapy
First things first, what exactly is NLP? Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a fascinating tool that focuses on the connection between our neurological processes, language, and behavioral patterns that we have learned through experience. Essentially, it helps us understand the narratives running in our minds and how they shape our experiences of life. By tuning into what we're telling ourselves—especially about our divorces or any challenging life phase—we can begin to consciously rewrite those scripts, creating narratives that uplift rather than hinder us.
Using Awareness as Power
I shared a personal story on the podcast that really captures the essence of living consciously with your thoughts. During the throes of my separation, I was plagued by a slew of negative emotions fueled by fear. It wasn’t until a pivotal moment—when I read a line in Untethered Soul—that I realized those nagging, negative thoughts weren't actually "me." That awareness alone was immensely empowering and served as a pause button on my internal narrative. It taught me that I didn't have to believe every thought that popped into my head, and more importantly, that I could choose to rewrite them.
The Dance Between Fear and Love
One enlightening aspect of our conversation with Lizzy was the relationship between fear and love. Lizzy emphasized that there’s a thin veil separating these two powerful forces. Fear often disguises itself as anger or frustration, but once we identify its true face, we can transition those feelings into opportunities for growth. Think of anger as a siren call urging you to examine what's truly going on internally. By acknowledging and unpacking our fears, we can choose to step into a narrative of love and self-compassion.
Finding Your Truth
The practice of identifying and moving through emotions without judgment is key. Here are some steps we discussed on the podcast that can help anyone going through this process:
- Identify and Express: Give your emotions a voice. Allow yourself to acknowledge and articulate your feelings through journaling or even speaking aloud.
- Forgive and Release: Forgive yourself for judgments—of yourself and others—and embrace the truth of the situation.
- Live Your Truth: Act on the new narrative you’ve created. Celebrate the process and progress, while recognizing that it’s okay to falter and recalibrate.
A New Path Forward
Ultimately, every one of us has the power to redefine our narratives and create a new path forward. Remember that you're not alone on this journey. For many of us, pain and fear have been significant motivators. However, it’s through loving and accepting every part of ourselves—including those shadowy parts—that we move toward a life of freedom and joy.
Embrace the Journey
Life after divorce is certainly a multifaceted journey. If you find yourself stuck in old stories that no longer serve you, I invite you to step into the practice of rewriting them. Challenge your thoughts, embrace your emotions, and dare to envision a future where you’re the hero of your own story. Rewiring your beliefs won’t happen overnight, but every small step counts.
It’s all part of the process, and though the path may be winding, you are capable and worthy of living the life of your dreams. Let’s continue this journey together—one empowering thought at a time.
